No contexto das discussões atuais sobre preservação do patrimonial cultural as comunidades que vivem no entorno dos bens patrimoniais são consideradas responsáveis diretas pela sua salvaguarda e o instrumento mais utilizado para fomentar essa aproximação é a educação. O presente estudo é resultado da investigação desenvolvida na comunidade de Coronel José Dias/PI, situada no entorno do Parque Nacional Serra da Capivara (PNSC), Patrimônio da Humanidade pela UNESCO e tem como principal objetivo perceber as relações estabelecidas entre comunidade e parque, principalmente no que concerne à sua valorização, acessibilidade, preservação e fruição social. Para tanto, foi necessário elaborar uma abordagem teórica sobre o conceito de patrimônio cultural, documentos oficiais de proteção patrimonial no âmbito nacional e internacional e o papel da educação nos processos de inclusão social e preservação patrimonial, para em seguida contextualizar a área de estudo, delineando o histórico de criação do município, as motivações de criação do Parque e as relações instituídas com a comunidade. A metodologia de pesquisa foi estruturada através de revisão bibliográfica, análise dos programas educacionais desenvolvidos pelos órgãos gestores do PNSC e poder público. Buscou-se entender sob a ótica da própria comunidade como se deram essas relações no decorrer do tempo através de aplicação de inquéritos por questionários.
In the context of the current discussions about the preservation of cultural heritage, communities living in the surroundings of the cultural asset are considered directly responsible for its safeguarding, and education is the most used instrument to promote this approach. This work is the result of the research undertaken in the community of Coronel Jose Dias / IP, located in the vicinity of the National Park of Serra da Capivara (PNSC), which is designated as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. The main objective of this thesis was to understand the relationships between the community and the park, especially with regard to its use, accessibility, preservation and social fruition. Hence, it was necessary to develop a theoretical approach to the concept of cultural heritage, to the official documents of Heritage protection at the national and international levels and to the role of education in the processes of social participation and preservation of assets. Therefore, the studied area was contextualized outlining the process of creation of the municipality, the purposes of creating the park and the established relationships with the community. The research methodology was structured through literature review and the analysis of educational programs, which were developed by the governing bodies of the PNSC and by the government. To better understand this relationship and its development throughout time, we tried to focus on the perspective of the community through the application of questionnaire based surveys.
