Resumo
Em O universo do fantástico na produção contista de Mia Couto: potencialidades de leitura em alunos do Ensino Básico, efectuamos uma revisão dos pressupostos teóricos do conto, género narrativo privilegiado pelos escritores actuais da América Latina e África lusófona; apontamos as linhas de força da poética do fantástico, com especial relevo para as suas funções sociais; apresentamos os eixos históricos e temáticos da literatura moçambicana inserida no contexto das literaturas africanas de/em Língua Portuguesa.
Neste estudo, identificamos também os vectores estruturantes presentes na produção contista de Mia Couto: a recuperação da ancestralidade, a afirmação da moçambicanidade e a procura da universalidade. Ao mesmo tempo, procuramos justificar a nítida opção do autor pela narrativa breve de índole fantástica. Estamos, assim, perante um fantástico que procura a subversão e a transgressão como forma de destituir um sistema social rígido e implementar uma nova ordem política, social e moral. A este propósito, problematizamos a dimensão da modalidade fantástica em Mia Couto (dimensão escatológica), bem como os procedimentos retóricos mais significativos, através dos quais o autor veicula a sua ideologia e subverte os cânones sociais: a hipérbole, a ironia e a alegoria.
Verificamos, igualmente, após um trabalho no terreno com alunos e com professores do 2º Ciclo do Ensino Básico, que os contos miacoutianos possuem potencialidades de leitura neste nível de Ensino.
In O universo do fantástico na produção contista de Mia Couto: potencialidades de leitura em alunos do Ensino Básico (The fantastic world in Mia Couto’s short-stories: reading strengths for elementary students), we present the theoretical frame underlying the short story, a very popular literary genre among contemporary Latin American and African writers who express themselves in Portuguese; we make reference to the most important characteristics of fantastic literature with a special emphasis on the social functions attributed to fantasy; and we mention the main historical and thematic grounds in the Mozambican Literature, contextually situated in the whole African Literature, written in Portuguese. Along this research, we also identify the supporting themes in Mia Couto’s short stories: the recovery of ancestral traditions, the importance of Mozambican cultural heritage, and the endless pursuit for universal recognition. Besides, we try to justify the author’s preference for fantastic short stories. We also acknowledge his use of subversion and transgression as a way of fighting back a hard social system and promoting its regeneration under new social and political principles. In this context, we critically reflect upon the influence exerted by an eschatological point of view on Mia Couto’s fantastic literature. Moreover, this study presents the three rhetorical strategies upon which the author rests to transmit his ideology and to subvert the social structures: irony, the hyperbole and the allegory. Some elementary school teachers and two classes (sixth graders) contributed to this research in so far they allowed us to reinforce our beliefs in the reading potentialities/ strengths of Mia Couto’s short-stories and the advantages of promoting the reading of Mia Couto’s short-stories at this school level.
