During our stay at the Children‟s Room we realized that our work goals were achieved through the methods and techniques which we considered relevant. Thus, and having in mind what was said before, our general research goals were: i) Interpret the children‟s actions inside the Children‟s Room in terms of what we distinguish as “skills” and “usages” in Socio-cultural Animation context; ii) Understand what sort of influences of the “adult world” (parents, family members, teachers, facilitators of the Children‟s Room) determine the two types of children‟s actions, and the ways that these influences are shown; iii) Understand in what way the dynamics used in the Children‟s Room, as Socio-cultural Animation context, structure and are structured by the “usages” and “skills” of the children; Our specific goals were: i) Understand how the mobility of the children to and within the Children‟s Room and the way as the “adult world” of the parents, family members, teachers and facilitators influence that mobility; ii) Describe the children‟s activities inside and outside the Children‟s Room, in terms of “usages” and “skills”, but also, in terms of “gender” (boys or girls) and chronological age (younger/older) and school age (years and study cycles); iii) Describe the Children‟s Room activities for the children and characterize them in terms of Socio-cultural Animation methodology for Infancy and their educational and recreational functions; iv) Understand what are the children‟s subjectivities towards the Children‟s Room from their favourite activities, inside and outside the Children‟s Room, from the representations, expectations and projections about/for the Children‟s Room; v) Develop a small activity with the children, the Drama Game, and understand the children‟s receptivity to more interactive methodologies. So, through the technicians, we realized that the interviews were fundamental for the gathering of the information we needed, such as the observation registries, participant observation and the documental research (official documents and public documents from the library and the drawings which the children did upon our request). We understand what is more enjoyable for the children when they are in the Children‟s Room (CR), what they don‟t like to do, and what kind of games they prefer, among other things (usages). And we also realized that the “adult world” (parents, and/or other family members, facilitators of the CR) influences the children‟s actions in the CR (skills). This is why our work has the following title: The “usages” and the “skills” of the children in a Socio-cultural Animation context: study case in the “Children‟s Room” of the Public Library of Ílhavo. Throughout the time we spent in the Children‟s Room, we noticed, besides what was mentioned in the previous paragraph, that the role of the parents and/or other family members is important within the Children‟s Room, i.e., it is the family (parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, etc.) the main mobility “agency” of the children towards and inside the Children‟s Room, in other words, it is mainly the family that is responsible for “bringing, following and picking up” the child from the Children‟s Room. Therefore, this reference was relevant to our perception. Thus, parents and other family members are invited to participate in the activities that the children do. In conclusion, we have to refer the methodology used in our work, seen as a study case; it was the qualitative methodology, having in mind that this one characterizes itself by studying a concrete situation strongly detailed.
