Resumo
O estudo sério de qualquer investigador num trabalho de investigação – que neste caso se desenvolve no âmbito da Língua e da Cultura Portuguesas – passa, em primeiro lugar, por realizar um delicado trabalho de desminagem ideológica para abrir caminhos de compreensão que permitam educar e oferecer novos olhares.
No caso deste trabalho, o debate gira em torno das obras e das figuras do Pe. António Vieira e de Fernando Pessoa, com enfoque principal no tema: Os Direitos Humanos em Padre António Vieira e Fernando Pessoa – Tradição e Modernidade. A primeira destas figuras é a maior glória da sermonística da Companhia de Jesus em Portugal no século XVII, uma figura emblemática do Barroco e do Seiscentismo; a segunda figura é o mais extraordinário poeta português, uma das personalidades mais complexas e representativas da literatura portuguesa, europeia e mundial do século XX.
O estudo aqui levado a cabo incide sobre estes escritores portugueses distanciados no tempo, mas ambos marcados pelas complexas dinâmicas das sociedades humanas vivas que o presente estudo pretende iluminar e dar a conhecer, enquanto contexto em que se inserem os textos de duas figuras singulares na defesa dos Direitos Humanos e do Humanismo Universal. No desenrolar desta investigação é aprazível e proveitoso catapultar para as luzes da ribalta o Pe. António Vieira e Fernando Pessoa, duas figuras de relevo na questão do repensar o destino coletivo português impregnado pelos valores da cristandade e do império universal, tópicos que durante vários séculos até à modernidade continuam a processar mudanças profundas na mentalidade e na forma de sentir e de ser português.
Com a tese Os Direitos Humanos em Padre António Vieira e Fernando Pessoa – Tradição e Modernidade, procura-se dar respostas e lançar questões que abram novas perspetivas ao conhecimento, por meio de uma leitura renovada dos projetos estético-literários destes dois autores, através das suas obras mais emblemáticas e representativas no âmbito dos Direitos Humanos, designadamente, os Sermões do Padre António Vieira e a poesia de Fernando Pessoa ortónimo, heterónimo, ou somente pseudónimo. Além do mais, visa-se uma revisitação de duas figuras apaixonantes da língua e da cultura portuguesas que continuam a impor-se aos leitores de hoje, mesmo àqueles que apenas procuram nas obras de sermonística vieirina ou na poética pessoana o poder sedutor do seu verbo inflamado.
Any serious research study - which is conducted in the areas of Portuguese language and culture, as is our case - must firstly perform a delicate work of ideological clarification, to open ways of understanding, that can be educative and can offer new looks and views. The present work debates the literary works and personalities of Father Antonio Vieira and of Fernando Pessoa, with a main focus on the theme: Human rights in Father Antonio Vieira and Fernando Pessoa - Tradition and Modernity [Os Direitos Humanos em Padre António Vieira e Fernando Pessoa - Tradição e Modernidade]. The first of these authors is the greater sermonist of the Society of Jesus in Portugal, in the seventeenth century, and an emblematic figure of the Baroque and Seiscentismo; the second one is the most extraordinary Portuguese poet, and one of the most complex and representative personalities of the twentieth century Portuguese, European and of world literature. This study focuses on these two Portuguese vates, who are distant in the time, but both branded by the complex dynamics of the living human societies, that this study aims to clarify and make known. When analyzing these aspects, they areconsidered as the context in which we can insert the texts of these singular figures of the Universal Human Rights defense and the Universal Humanism. In the course of this work it is attractive and useful bring to limelight Father Antonio Vieira and Fernando Pessoa, as two prominent figures regarding the issue of rethinking the Portuguese collective destiny that is imbued with values of Christianity and of universal empire. During several centuries, until the modernity, these topics have been processing profound changes in mentality and in the way of feeling and of be Portuguese. With the present thesis, titled Human Rights in Father Antonio Vieira and Fernando Pessoa - Tradition and Modernity, we intend revisiting two fascinating figures of the Portuguese language and culture that still impose themselves to readers, even to those who only seek, in the sermons of Vieira or in the poetic of Pessoa, the seductive power of their inflamed words. Through a renewed reading of the aesthetics-literary projects of these two authors, through their most emblematic and representative works in the context of human rights, namely the Sermons of Father Antonio Vieira and the poetry of Fernando Pessoa orthonym, heteronym, or pseudonym, we seek to provide answers and put questions, that may open new perspectives to the current knowledge.
