With the realization of this work, intends to contribute to the identification of the properties of diffusion from the wood of Maritime Pine (Pinus pinaster Ait.). The work consisted in the realization of experimental tests in accordance with the Fick’s law, which included both the water adsorption and desorption. The experimental results were adjusted resorting to the model of Shen and Springer, 1976, in the sense of being obtained the values of the diffusion coefficient and the equilibrium moisture content. The properties of diffusion (diffusion coefficient and the equilibrium moisture content), were identified in different conditions of temperature and relative moisture. Besides the diffusion properties, the rate of shrinkage and swelling were identified, according to the directions of anatomical symmetry. The evaluation of the experimental results allowed to end what, when the faces in the longitudinal direction from the wood, are exposed to the moisture adsorption or desorption, the values of the equilibrium moisture content and diffusion coefficient, practically they are the same as the obtained ones for the wood, when exposed in all the faces of anatomical symmetry. Thus, it can be ended that, what is for the longitudinal direction, great part of the moisture transport takes place in the Pinus pinaster wood. It was checked that, in the general, the dimensional variation is around twice superior in the tangential direction, when compared with the radial direction and that the variation in the longitudinal direction is not much significant.
