At present we are witnessing a growing number of adolescents and young adults in divorced families, which may reflect changes in the levels of psychological well-being and the development of individuation. This study has a sample of 827 individuals, attending secondary school and university, aged between 13 and 25 years. The data collection was carried out in northern Portugal, through self-related questionnaires: romantic relationships (QVA – Loving Attachment Questionnaire), the perception of social support (SSA - Evaluation of Social Support), the individuation process (MITA - Munich Individuation Test for adolescents) and psychological well-being (EMMBEP - Scale Measurement of Embodiments of psychological Well-Being). Through the analysis of internal consistency and the confirmatory factor analysis it was possible to ensure adequate psychometric qualities. The transversal empirical study has as aim to analyze the effect of quality of romantic relationships and the perception of social support in the development of the individuation process and psychological well-being in young people of different family configurations (intact and divorced). Another objective is to test the moderating role of family configuration in the association between the attachment prototypes and the process of individuation and psychological well-being, as well as the association between the perception of social support and the process of individuation and psychological well-being. The main results showed that confident love relationships and greater perception of social support are positively associated with the development of the successful individuation processes and with high levels of well-being. It is also worth noting the predictive power of family support perception in the development of successful individuation processes. The family configuration was shown to have a moderating role in the association between attachment prototypes and the individuation process and psychological well-being, and the association between the perception of social support and the individuation process. In this sense it was found that young people from intact families presented a more successful individuation and higher levels of psychological well-being compared to youths from divorced families. The results were analyzed according to the attachment theory and an ecological perspective of development, making a clear understanding of the personal growth of young people against the vicissitudes inherent to the change of family configuration.
