Item Acesso Aberto Marian Midsize Shrines: three itineraries between Portugal and Slovakia2017 - Ambrósio, Vitor; Braga, Carla; Leitão, Isilda; Fernandes, Carlos; Krogmann, Alfred; Nemčíková, MagdalénaMany travelers whose main motivation is religious tourism (Catholic) have visited the major shrines such as the Holy Land, the Vatican, Lourdes (France) and Fatima (Portugal). After having been in those places/shrines, numerous religious tourists want to visit other sanctuaries but not many programs offer that possibility. With that in mind, three researchers drove from Lisbon (Portugal) to Levoča (Slovakia) nearly always stopping along Marian midsize shrines. The data collected by participant observation allowed the researchers to design three different itineraries - they include the most important Marian midsize shrines and also towns/small cities along the way. On the one hand, this paper has a strong practical component in order to be used as a reflective tool by the travel agents/tour operators; on the other hand, academics can use the programs as training material for student exercises, demonstrating that an itinerary is not only a set of thematic resources but also used for time and travel management by visitors.Item Acesso Aberto Some considerations about the contribution of small ruminants to bovine farming systems sustainability2009 - Costa, Ana Alexandra Vilela Marta Rio; Poeta, AlexandreBased on a set of indicators, identified by using the MESMIS methodology (Framework for Evaluation of Natural-Resource Systems Handling through Sustainability Indicators), we perform a relative evaluation on economic, social and environmental sustainability aspects, between farms with bovines of Maronesa breed and sheep and/or goats for meat, and farms only with bovine Maronesa breed in their production area (mountain chains Marão-Alvão-Padrela). The results show that simultaneous production of the three species presents better economic, social and environmental results. The differences are more accentuated on economic indicators and less evident when the financial supports provided to the current activity are considered.Item Acesso Aberto The influence of academic and demographic factors on entrepreneurial intention antecedents among students of a portuguese higher education institution2017 - Rodrigues, Ana Paula; Eira, Filipa; António, Capitolina Patricia de Brito; Pires, CarlosResearchers have previously used the Theory of Planned Behavior as a theoretical framework to investigate entrepreneurial intention (EI). However, there are some studies that suggests that psychological factors such as spirituality (S), emotional intelligence (EmoI) and creativity(C) play an essential role in developing alternative EI models. This correlational study explores the relationships between EI antecedents (S, EmoI, C, personal attitudes towards entrepreneurship-PA and perceived behaviour control-PBC) and academic and demographic factors (gender, scientific study area, working experience, entrepreneurial family background, student status, entrepreneurial education, among others) of university students. A quantitative approach was used, through a personal questionnaire survey applied to 345 students in a Portuguese higher education institution. Data was analysed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The correlation levels of S, EmoI, C, PA, PBC and EI are relatively low to moderate. There are strong positive correlations between EI, PA and PBC. The most creative students have higher levels of PA, PBC and EI. A moderate positive correlation is observed between EmoI and C, and between EmoI and PBC. S was not correlated to most of the concepts in the analysis. There are several significant associations between EI determinants and some academic and demographic variables, for example, higher EI levels occur with students that have “student-worker” status, with those that have taken part in entrepreneurship education programs, and those who have family members with their own business and have some experience in the labour market. In educational settings due consideration should be given to EmoI and C as to promote students ́ EI. The study has implications for academics involved in entrepreneurship education.Item Acesso Aberto Knowledge sharing and (In)security: towards a comprehensive view of managerial aspects2017-09 - Leal, Carmem Teresa Pereira; Meirinhos, Galvão dos Santos; Loureiro, Marlene da Conceição Vasques; Silva, Rui Jorge Rodrigues daThe present study characterizes the global dynamics of academic publications about Knowledge Sharing and Information Security through a research restricted to articles and conference proceedings present in Thomson Reuters Web of Science. It is an exploratory and descriptive study for which techniques recommended by Bibliometrics were used. Thus, during the period established for this study, a total of 78 authors contributed to 28 publications, distributed by 17 titles of journals and 19 conferences proceedings, with almost 60% of these authors contributing with three or more publications. About 60% of the scientific output was the responsibility of Malaysia, Sweden, Iran, Greece and England whose research reaches respectively 18%, 11%, 11%, 11%, 11% of total productivity, showing a great geographical dispersion. However, there is some concentration in terms of scientific journals and research areas, being identified, mostly, the Computer Science, Information Sciences and Engineering areas. Due to this confluence and constant interaction with other disciplines, apparently the field of Knowledge Sharing has not yet crystallized as a theoretical territory. The articles identified related to Knowledge Sharing and Information Security were submitted to a bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer software. This method was applied in two phases, primarily, a descriptive analysis was conducted and then a co-citation analysis was performed recurring to VOSviewer software. The results obtained from co-citation analysis include two clusters, namely: cluster 1 - Information Security and sharing of knowledge under the user's perspective and cluster 2 - Knowledge Sharing and Information Security under the organisation’s perspective and translate a gap in terms of research about Knowledge Sharing and Information Security, thus pointing to a path to be explored. There is also the need to foster new research and strengthen the networks of researchers, in order to broaden the framework and theoretical crystallization as an autonomous scientific discipline. Item Acesso Restrito Knowledge, innovation, internationalization, and performance in a traditional industry2016-03-22 - Marques, Carla Susana Da Encarnação; Marques, Carlos Peixeira; Leal, Carmem Teresa PereiraThis paper seeks to promote a better understanding of the relationships between, and possible effects of, strategic knowledge management (SKM), innovation, internationalization, and performance in the Portuguese footwear industry. The rationale for this research is based on the understanding that innovation has played a major role in the recent good performance and internationalization of this industry—trends that have developed despite Portugal’s economic recession. The study used a quali-quantitative methodology, gathering data through semi-structured interviews with chief executive officers of footwear firms and academics specializing in innovation, as well as a questionnaire concentrating on the largest geographical cluster of Portugal’s footwear industry. We found support for our initial expectation that SKM is mainly absent from these firms’ formal practices: codification is seldom considered, and personalization tends to be informal. Nevertheless, SKM contributes to innovation, and more innovative firms are more extensively and deeply internationalized.Item Acesso Restrito The Influence of Knowledge Sharing on Healthcare Organisations’ Performance2016-07-06 - Leal, Carmem Teresa Pereira; Marques, Carlos Peixeira; Marques, Carla Susana Da Encarnação; Cruz, MariaKnowledge sharing (KS) lies at the core of knowledge management and reflects employees’ willingness to share valuable expertise. The benefits of KS have been documented in many settings, but its effectiveness varies considerably among organisations. This research sought, first, to identify healthcare workers’ perception of the importance of KS practices and the way they relate to organisational performance. Second, this study focused on verifying the (in)existence of the mediation effects of job satisfaction and turnover intention in the relationship between KS and organisational performance. Two dimensions of KS were considered: informal (IKS) and formal (FKS). To model their effects on performance, job satisfaction and turnover intention were considered mediators. Measurements of these four latent variables were collected from a sample of Portuguese healthcare professionals and validated via confirmatory factor analysis. Path structural equation modelling was used to assess the direct and indirect relationships between the four variables. The results suggest that, while FKS increases job satisfaction, it also increases the perceived performance of healthcare professionals regardless of their satisfaction levels. Keeping sample limitations in mind, our preliminary conclusion is that investing in FKS is beneficial to healthcare services, favouring the retention of satisfied workers who value non-financial organisational performance.Item Acesso Aberto Why do some women micro-entrepreneurs decide to formalise their businesses?2017 - Marques, Carla Susana Da Encarnação; Leal, Carmem Teresa Pereira; Santos, Gina; Marques, Carlos Peixeira; Alves, RobertaThe present study intends to identify the profile of women microentrepreneurs and assess the extent to which their entrepreneurial motivations may be influenced by legal incentives to formalise their businesses and by their capacity to reconcile the demands of family and work. A questionnaire was used to gather data on the individual entrepreneurial initiatives of women in Brazil. We evaluated multiple linear regression models for their explanation of the dimensions involving motivations to formalise business activities and dual roles as workers and homemakers, as well as using cluster analysis to identify the profile of women micro-entrepreneurs. The results suggest that these women opt for legalised individual entrepreneurship to access the benefits offered by the formalisation of their businesses and to search for mechanisms that encourage a work-family balance.Item Acesso Restrito Beliefs, Behaviours, and Outcomes: an Application to Knowledge Sharing in Healthcare Services2017 - Marques, Carlos Peixeira; Leal, Carmem Teresa Pereira; Marques, Carla Susana Da Encarnação; Ratten, VanessaHealthcare is a knowledge‐intensive activity entailing that knowledge management, particularly sharing and conversion, is critical to decision making throughout the diagnostic‐ therapeutic cycle and ultimately to management as well as to health outcomes. This paper seeks to contribute to the understanding of how knowledge sharing behaviours in healthcare services depend from attitudes and impact on perceived organizational performance. After analysis from a survey of 298 healthcare employees from North Portugal, results confirm an overall positive relationship between beliefs, behaviours, and performance. Additionally, it is suggested that a strong belief in the organizational benefits of knowledge sharing is more important to the frequency of sharing and to the perception of organizational performance than the belief in personal benefits from sharing is. Finally, results point out the importance of the relatively less frequent exchanges of explicit knowledge to improve healthcare outcomes.Item Acesso Restrito Knowledge sharing and healthcare: a bibliometric analysis2017 - Cruz, Maria Lopes da; Leal, Carmem Teresa Pereira; Marques, Carlos PeixeiraTaking into account the importance of Knowledge Management, both in academic terms and in the management practices, this work aims to explore and describe the scientific literature published in the ISI Web of Science. As specific objectives we present a) describe how thisfield of research is organized in terms of publications, authors and sources(journals); b) discuss how the literature referred to presents challenges (opportunities and difficulties) for the scholarship on the knowledge sharing within health organizations. A systematic approach was used, making use of a rigorous protocol and definition of steps to perform the research and analysis of the literature. The results show that this is still an incipient research topic due to the high polarization identified, either in terms of the number of publications by journals or authors. This paper identifies ways of research that can be explored in order to give greater consistency and to increase substantively the theoretical and empirical knowledge in this theme.Item Acesso Restrito Partilha de conhecimento entre docentes do ensino superior: uma revisão quantitativa dada literatura2017 - Sousa, Nuno; Marques, Carlos Peixeira; Leal, Carmem Teresa Pereira
