Item Acesso Aberto Bilateral curriculum development for assistance in food security in lusophone Africa1993 - Koehnen, Timothy Leonard; Portela, José; Cristovão, Artur Fernando Arede CorreiaItem Acesso Aberto Innovative management of community territories and inter-organizational communication for regional development2019 - Koehnen, Timothy LeonardThe chapter addresses engagement, facilitation processes, governance, decentralized decision-making process, and inter-organizational relationships in rural communities in Portugal involving the community lands in mountainous areas. These lands are multifunctional in that they are used for forestry, grazing of ruminants, honey production, mushroom and dry nut gathering, water and wind rights, as well as plant protection and preservation of ecosystems. The management of these lands is the responsibility of the common land associations. These local institutions and their leaders represent the local users of these community lands. The chapter presents empirical data from an exploratory research study of inter-organizational linkages with these common land institutions and other governmental organiza- tions and civil society entities. The entities include ministry and regional level organizations, municipal governments, and local development associations.Item Acesso Aberto Life cycle of wine routes: north Portugal’s perspective2019-04 - Dimitrovski, Darko; Joukes, Veronique Nelly Paul Marie; Rachão, SusanaItem Acesso Aberto Wine firm’s size and economic performance: Evidence from traditional Portuguese wine regions2018 - Rebelo, João Fernandes; Gouveia, Sofia Helena Cerqueira de; Gomes, Lina Sofia Matos Lourenço; Costa, Ana Alexandra Vilela Marta RioThe wine market is an excellent example of monopolistic competition, demonstrating both vertical and horizontal product differentiation. The propensity toward monopolis- tic competition and the asymmetric preferences of wine consumption can justify the coexistence of different sized wineries. The main goal of this chapter is to analyze the economic performance of wineries, using indicators widely employed in economic and business literature, and to assess the potential influence of size on firm’s performance. To achieve this goal, different statistical tests are applied to firms ́ data collected from two representative Portuguese demarcated wine regions (Douro and Vinho Verde). The results confirm that the wine firm’s performance is a multidimensional construct, exhibiting similarities and differences, according to the index used. The size of firms increases their export performance but exhibits a nonstatistical effect on the financial performance. The indices of productivity and productive efficiency show that there is no standard behavior. The results of this study can be useful both for managers and public decision-makers, given the importance of controlling economic performance in order to guarantee the industry’s competitiveness in an increasingly globalized wine business. Item Acesso Aberto Silvopastoral systems as a tool for territorial sustainability and biodiversity2017 - Manso, Filipa Conceição Silva Furtado Tor...; Costa, Ana Alexandra Vilela Marta Rio; Tibério, Manuel LuisRural and livestock population evolution in the inner north of Portugal has demonstrated a great regression with consequences for environment and nature conservation. In this context, and taking into account that pastoral activity has shaped the natural areas of mountain territories since its beginning and that territo- ries are currently part of Natura 2000 network, rethinking the importance of such activity has become vital. The constraints affecting daily tasks performed by shep- herds and livestock breeders as well as the installed social segregation are a strong limitation. However, current research developed in the context of nature conserva- tion has demonstrated the importance of the landscape mosaic promoted by grazing in the preservation of priority habitats. In this way, it is urgent to assess the issue of shepherds and livestock breeders’ image in terms of their roles, relationships and concerns, as well as to assess pastoralism socioeconomics in regard to self- consumption, market and rural self-sufficiency. In this perspective, this work presents an analysis of the adaptation of grazing to current times, perceiving its limitations and success potential. It will present a literature review of the internationalization process, attending to related concepts and internationalization theories, and examine the traditional approach versus new patterns of internationalization. In the field of entrepre- neurship it will consider the entrepreneurial orientation as a measure of a firm ́s entrepreneurship and the relationship with its internationalization. In sum, this chapter aims to reach an understanding of how the entrepreneurial ecosystem, including clusters and networks, as well as entrepreneurial orientation developed by firms, contribute to internationalization of the firm, and the possible regional impacts resulting from entrepreneurship and internationalization.Item Acesso Aberto The main challenges of higher education institutions in the 21st century: a focus on entrepreneurship2019-09 - Olo, Daniela; Correia, Leonida Amaral Tomas; Rego, MariaInterest in higher education institutions (HEIs) as instruments for development has increased in recent years. The main objective of this chapter is to address the main challenges HEIs face in the 21st century as key actors for regional development, emphasising their entrepreneurial dimension. The pressures exerted on HEIs to become more effective, efficient, and autonomous require a reflection regarding the present and future of higher education. Through a detailed analysis and discussion of the relevant literature, this chapter contributes to a better understanding of the role of HEIs, especially given its relationship with society and the need for a more effective contribution to socioeconomic development.Item Acesso Aberto Vida boa e história de amor: Desígnios femininos ante turistas europeus no nordeste brasileiro2016 - Sacramento, Octavio José Rio doItem Acesso Aberto Cross-Cultural perceptions and discourses between rural and urban in Galicia2013 - Perez, Xose Xerardo Pereiro; Santiago, PradoItem Acesso Aberto Democracia participativa em territórios peri-urbanos: Uma análisecomparativa de práticas de governança2014 - Gonçalves, HermíniaItem Acesso Aberto Recensão crítica do livro “Etnografia e intervenção social – por uma praxis reflexiva”2011-06-22 - Gonçalves, HermíniaItem Acesso Aberto A oferta de alojamento turístico no Douro2020-08 - Sousa, Nuno André Pinto de; Bento, Ricardo Jorge e Silva; Perez, Xose Xerardo PereiroItem Acesso Restrito Desafios para a cocriação de experiências turísticas rurais sustentáveis2014-02 - Kastenholz, Elisabeth; Eusébio, Celeste; Sousa, Ana; Carvalho, Mariana; Lima, Joana; Carneiro, Maria; Figueiredo, Elisabete; Pato, Lúcia; Breda, Zélia; Cunha, Conceição; Marques, Carlos Peixeira; Loureiro, Sandra; Mota, Ana; Silva, Ana; Perez, Xose Xerardo Pereiro; Capela, CatarinaItem Acesso Aberto Vida Boa e história de amor: Desígnios femininos ante turistas europeus no Nordeste Brasileiro2016 - Sacramento, Octavio José Rio doItem Acesso Aberto Capital, desigualdade e o passado que devora o futuro2015-05 - Sacramento, Octavio José Rio doItem Acesso Restrito Emociones, experiencias turísticas y apegos a los destinos2018 - Marques, Carlos Peixeira
