The exercise has been promoting satisfactory answers in the prevention and control of hypertension in elderly hypertensive patients, making it one of the main nonpharmacological therapeutic. The hypotensive effect of physical exercise on blood pressure has as a consequence, the reduction of cardiovascular risk factors, resulting in lower rates of mortality among the elderly. The purpose of this study was to investigate through a systematic review which the type, intensity and duration ideal for postexercise hypotension occurs in elderly hypertensive patients. Studies were selected for review in electronic databases: MEDLINE (1966 to present) , PubMed (1950 to present) , LILACS (1982 to present) , SciELO (1998 to present) in Portuguese, English and Spanish. For data analysis the following categories were created according to the data found: aerobic exercise, resistance exercise and aerobic exercise association with resistance in elderly hypertensive patients. Most studies suggesting that exercise contributes so beneficial in controlling blood pressure in elderly hypertensive, characterized as an important non-conduct of drug prevention and treatment of hypertension in the elderly.
