This research is part of the theme retailer-supplier supply chain relationships (SC) and intends to define and validate a theoretical model that explains the importance of relationships and cooperation/collaboration in the financial performance and economic satisfaction of the Food SC in Minas Gerais - Brazil. A theoretical model was proposed to analyze the effect of the relationship practices (trust, commitment, dependency, coercive power, non-coercive power) on cooperation and the impact of such practices and cooperation in the retailer financial performance and economic satisfaction. Consequently, eight constructs are operationalized: trust, commitment, dependency, coercive power, non-coercive power, cooperation, financial performance and economic satisfaction. This model was translated into five hypotheses, which together allow the study of the relationships studied. The model was validated by a questionnaire applied to a sample of 351 food retail companies from Minas Gerais. In the first phase the validity of the proposed constructs was analyzed, and in a second stage, the theoretical model proposed was validated by the structural equation modeling. The findings indicate that financial performance and economic satisfaction are positively related to retailer-supplier cooperation. The results also indicate a significant negative effect of power (coercive and non-coercive) and financial performance, despite the significant positive relationship between non-coercive power and cooperation.
