Através do capítulo I - casos de estudo encontram-se vários exemplos de cidades internacionais e os respetivos critérios de seleção, tais como: Holanda – “The Green City Guidelines”, Espanha – “Plano Gestion Aborlado Viario de Barcelona”, Reino Unido – “Connecting Londoners with Trees and Woodlands - A Tree and Woodland Framework for London”, Estados Unidos da América – “Tree Planting Standart - City of New York Parks and Recreation”, Austrália – “City of Sydney Street Tree Master Plan – Part B - Tree Species Selection”, Tese de Doutoramento – “Selecting public street and park trees for urban environments: the role of ecological and biogeographical criteria” – Nova Zelândia e o Artigo Cientifico – “Crown size and growing space requirement of common tree species in urban centres, parks, and forests”.
Urban vegetation benefits cities not only biophysically (climatic, bioclimatic, biological, hydrological), but also cultural, social and aesthetic (providing spaces for leisure and socialization and promoting the quality of life in cities) (DGOTDU, 2009). The arboreal vegetation offers an aesthetic sense, promoting greater predisposition on the part of the people to move on foot or by bicycle. Nowadays the selection of the arboreal stratum is already more careful noting the care in the relation of the spaces constructed with the green spaces, however the selection of this vegetal material attached to the factor "climatic changes" is still a little open. The objective of this work is to demonstrate which species are most suitable for the different climates in continental Portugal and to stipulate the "ideal" dimensions of boilers in urban areas, with reference to several physical aspects of the tree to be planted; Dap, clod volume, etc. Through these two parameters of selection, the trees will have greater resistance to the climatic changes in the urban environment obtaining a greater longevity. For this, a vast bibliographical revision was used to perceive, in international terms, which criteria influence the selection of the arboreal vegetation for the urban environment and the methods that relate the dimensions of the boilers with the arboreal vegetation. Through chapter I - case studies are several examples of international cities and their selection criteria such as: The Netherlands - "The Green City Guidelines - Techniques for a healthy liveable city ", Spain - “Plano Gestion Aborlado Viario de Barcelona ", UK – “Connecting Londoners with Trees and Woodlands - A Tree and Woodland Framework for London ", United States of America -" Tree Planting Standart - City of New York Parks and Recreation " New Zealand and the Scientific Article - "Crown size and growing space requirement of common tree species in urban centers”-New Zealand and the Scientific Article -" Selecting public street and park trees for urban environments: the role of ecological and biogeographical criteria " parks, and forests ". In chapter IV we present different methodologies for the installation of the tree in an urban environment, such as: relation of the diameter of the clod with the DBH, volume of the clod, volume of the clod and relation of the volume of the plantation pit and the diameter of the plantation pit which is subdivided into three methodologies. By selecting the species for the Portuguese climate, it is concluded that the Mediterranean climate with Atlantic influence is the one that has a greater variety of tree species compared to the other two climates (Mediterranean climate with continental influence and Mediterranean climate). After analyzing the methodologies for the installation of the tree in an urban environment, through the relation of several mathematical formulas, it is concluded that through the final formula, Lpit = 1.5 3 root 10Dap, it is possible to calculate the size of the pit by relating it to the Dap of the tree in question.
