The mediation of an educational process requires that the source used for it, be able to translate the content addressed in such a way to allow its understanding and learning with the minimum cognitive effort possible. The Information and Communication Technology in the rural environment presents a great potential. Their use reduce the information access costs and the distances, limiting factors for the population in these areas. A fundamental question, however, is to discover to what extent the farmers can use the information collected from this type of source in the execution of their tasks. To verify that the video, specifically the didactic one, for its pedagogical and technical characteristics, is able to efficiently mediate the Professional Training process with pesticide applicators, was the aim of the present study. The sample used, was consisted of 350 workers in this occupation, who participated in the Rural Professional Formation in the state of Minas Gerais. The region where the study took place, is the southwest of Minas Gerais, a big coffee producer. The chemical products application, with the purpose of protecting the culture from the attack of pest and disease, is an important task in these properties. The study was structured in two distinct and complementary moments, one of them in a quantitative character and the other one in a qualitative character. In the quantitative study, were given Cognitive and Psychomotor information pertinent to the use of the personal protection equipment. In order to test the efficiency of the video, were used two didactic videos about these themes, and a questionnaire in the Likert scale to know the Attitude of the individuals when faced with this instructional source. In the qualitative study, the three instructors who participate in the quantitative one, were interviewed in order to obtain their Attitude in relation to the didactic video, through the Interview in Depth and the Content Analysis. In the quantitative study, the farmers were divided in 2 groups (CV of 23%), one group was considered the experimental and the other one, the control. The experimental group, was composed by 178 farmers and was exposed to two videos, one with a Cognitive content and another one with a Psychomotor content. The control group, with 172 individuals, was exposed to a Dynamic Exposition about the Cognitive content and to a Psychomotor content Demonstration. After the activities, the two groups were evaluated regard to the acquired knowledge or skill, as well as their Attitude related to the source. After the quantitative part, the instructors were then submitted to the Interview in Depth. The analysis of the quantitative data, shows that the farmers who participate in the Training course is male (94%), with an average age of 35 years old (SD 11,2%), and with an until complete Primary Education (63.2%), earns between 1 and 3 minimum wages (68.9%), is an employee (71.7%), has been employed for more than five years and has a poor access to computer equipment (32.9%). The learning process related to the Cognitive content measured by the analysis of the responses, shows that the face-to-face exposure was statistically similar to the video exposition (p=0.731). The nonexposed farmers answered correctly 7.35 in 10 questions, while the exposed ones, showed 7.29 corrects answers (CV of 23%). Regard to the Psychomotor content, was observed a significant difference (p<0.001) related to the use or not of the video as a knowledge source, being the face-to-face action higher. The evaluated farmers showed a positive Attitude regarding this video (p<0,001). Regarding to the instructors’s Attitude, the qualitative analysis also showed a positive attitude related to this source. The present study allowed us to conclude that the didactic videos, if properly elaborated can be really efficient to promote the learning process of the Cognitive contents, based in the favorable Attitude of the public involved in the Rural Training courses, but for the Psychomotor content, new studies needs to be developed in order to know better the factors that interfere with their efficiency and then try to minimize them.
