Qualidade do relacionamento entre irmãos, traços de personalidade e funcionamento familiar

Os irmãos são, geralmente, os nossos primeiros pares, com os quais desenvolvemos competências de partilha, confiança e cumplicidade. Todavia, quando nasce um irmão, vão surgir mudanças nos “papéis” de cada um dos membros da família. Numa amostra de 478 universitários com irmãos aplicaram-se o Neo Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI), o Brother and Sister Questionnaire (BSQ) e a Experiences of Sibling Aggression Scale (ESA) com o objetivo de explorar de que forma as várias dimensões da personalidade se encontram relacionadas com a qualidade do relacionamento entre irmãos. Os resultados demonstraram que os sujeitos com níveis mais elevados de neuroticismo têm níveis mais elevados de agressão entre irmãos, que quanto mais elevada é a dominância mais elevados são os traços de neuroticismo e menor a conscienciosidade e confirma-se que a empatia correlaciona-se de forma significativa, fraca e positiva com a agradabilidade e com a conscienciosidade. Conclui-se que a relação com os irmãos influencia o bem-estar emocional dos adolescentes, pelo que nos parece importante que se façam mais investigações de modo a melhor compreender a relação existente entre os irmãos, bem como, especificamente, a influência que os traços de personalidade têm na dinâmica fraterna.
Siblings are usually our first peers, with whom we develop sharing, trust, and complicity skills. However, when a sibling is born, there will be changes in the "roles" of each family member. In a sample of 478 youngsters with siblings, the Neo Five Factor Inventory (NEOFFI), the Brother and Sister Questionnaire (BSQ) and the Experiences of Sibling Aggression Scale (ESA) were used to explore how the various dimensions of personality are related to the quality of the relationship between siblings. The results showed that subjects with higher levels of neuroticism have higher levels of aggression among siblings, that the higher the dominance the higher the traits of neuroticism and the less conscientiousness, and it is confirmed that empathy correlates with significant, weak and positive with pleasantness and with conscientiousness. It is concluded that the relationship with the siblings influences the emotional well-being of the adolescents, so it seems important to us that more research is done in order to better understand the relationship between the siblings, as well as specifically the influence that the traits of personality have in fraternal dynamics.
