This work reflects about the influence of the application of forest management technique - controlled fire - in the design and interpretation of the forested landscape. The forest, apparently of natural character, results from human action, so its installation, exploration and/or preservation, involve management actions. Currently one of the main aspects weighted in forest management has to do with the fire control, and the fire controlled one of the techniques aimed at fire prevention. It’s intended with the development of work to understand how the application of controlled fire influences the elements present in the forest landscapes and which landscape basic principles design can benefit from the application of this technique, and if this technique can be associated complement techniques. As cases of evaluation were used three projects situated in different areas of the country: Serra do Marão (controlled fire and traditional grazing), Vila Pouca de Aguiar (controlled fire and directed grazing) and Tapada Nacional de Mafra (controlled fire, wild grazing and controlled regeneration). The evaluating about the way of the application of the controlled fire technique and complementary techniques contributed or not to a better design and landscape reading was qualitatively. It was concluded that the controlled fire application is a technique that acquires a maintenance and protection character of portuguese forests and when associated with complementary techniques its functions acquire a longer effect in time. Also the controlled fire application, with or without complementary techniques, allows a more balanced design of the landscape, by valorization and better interpretation of landscape elements.
